Unsurpassed Waters

Caddy Lake

Paddle through rugged rock tunnels on the popular Caddy Lake Canoe Route. Watch for eagles gliding overhead while you meander past cottages perched along the tree-lined shore. Slip into relaxation mode with the rhythm of your blade slicing through still water. Soak up the laid back vibe of Manitoba’s cottage country.

For a delightful day trip, set your sights on reaching the rock tunnels created in the late 1800s when the Canadian Pacific Railway laid down tracks. A family favourite for kids of all ages! Bask in the coolness of the cave-like tunnel that envelops you and your boat as you drift into South Cross Lake. Jump in for a refreshing swim before enjoying a picnic on shore.

Make a weekend of it and head for the second tunnel that leads into North Cross Lake. Leave the cottagers behind as you delve a little deeper into the wild. Be sure to duck low through the tunnel in high water years to clear the rocky ceiling overhead. Set up camp at one of several prime lakeshore spots. Grab a snooze on a sun-warmed slab of granite while you breathe in fragrant jack pine.

Located 150 km east of Winnipeg in Whiteshell Provincial Park, Caddy Lake serves up a day or a weekend of gentle paddling.
